The below information was gathered from Dick through a series of emails

I do remember seeing a picture of dad...wearing what looked like rip stop fatiques, and
a black beret. He was standing next to some tropical plant in a pot.  Dad was always planting something.
Must have been the farm boy in him.

Dad died in 1993..heart attack.  He's buried in Hampton Military Cemetery, VA.  Had full military honors.  It was interesting...his brother Leonard is in the same cemetery....dad had buried him there a few years
before.  When we went to the hospital, I asked him what he wanted done, just in case he didn't make it.
He was from Linton, Indiana and I wanted to know if he wanted me to take him back there.  He said "Hell No!"  " I want buried just as close to Leonard as you can get me."   Their graves are one row apart and straight across from each other.  Unreal.  Dad was a WW11 vet...Navy...Minesweeps.

I was the only kid my dad had.  I had turned 18 two weeks before arriving in Vietnam.  Dad had been there already for 9 months.  I arrived July 65.  He was in Qui Nhon.  Two weeks or so after my arrival I was called to personel.  I had to sign some kind of waiver to stay in country.   Dad wanted me gone.

When he departed vietnam, I was sent to the airport to see him away. We were able to spend a couple of hours together. I can't spell this....Ton Son Nhut? Right outside Saigon.  I remember that there were a couple of other guys leaving with him from his unit and they loaded me up with a bunch of stuff that they didn't want to take back.  What really bothers me after all this time is, we didn't think to take any pictures.

I've managed to come up with some stuff of dads.  Several DD214's and his discharge from the Navy
following WW11...His Navy Ship was the USS Sustain...a Minesweep and was involved in the invasions of Sicily, Italy, Anzio, and France.  In the invasion of France they sunk a sub, May 4, 1944. This info is written on the back of the Discharge.  Dad had completed Minewarfare School and was a Rigger..he was discharged as a BM2 Coxswain.

On one of his DD214's it says that his last duty assignment was 1st US Army, 309th Transportation
Platoon, and under item #25 Education and Training completed...Patrol Boat River Trng...USNIOTC...6
weeks...1969. I can't find any mention of the 458th Transportation Company or the 18th Military Police Brigade.  Then there is the picture of his PBR.  I found that his MOS was 61B40 Harbor Crft Oper. I found that he was assigned to the 329th Transportation Company at Ft. Eustis. The 14th Trans Plat at Qui Nhon and at Ft.Ord.
His date of birth was 10 Jan 25.
His tours in Viet Nam was:
22 May 65 - 10 May 66
9 Jul 67 - 4 Jul 68
12 Jan 70 - 4 Dec 70
5 Jul 71 - 15 Dec 71
I've made a copy of two boats...the PBR named "Karen Ann" (dads stepdaughter) and some kind of Tank
Transport with the bow number of YFU 74.
